This site exists to help Australians understand what dental and orthodontic treatment costs, what their cover may contribute and how to choose a registered practitioner. That only works if you can trust the numbers. This policy explains how we research, check and update every page, and how commercial arrangements are kept apart from editorial decisions.
Every page starts with a brief that names the question the page must answer, the Australian sources to draw on and the rules it must follow. Writers gather published fee data, policy documents and clinical guidance before the page is written.
We use AI writing tools to help structure guides, draft first versions and keep terminology consistent across hundreds of pages. What AI does not do is decide what is true. Every draft is treated as unverified until a human editor has checked it.
Before publication, an editor reads the full page, checks every figure against its source, removes any claim that cannot be supported, rewrites anything unclear and confirms the page follows our compliance rules. Nothing is published automatically, and the editor named in the byline is responsible for the page.
Dental fees in Australia are not fixed, so we describe every price as indicative or typical and show where it came from. Our preferred sources, roughly in order, are:
Each cost page lists its sources with publisher, title, link and access date. Where sources disagree, we publish the range and say what it is based on. Where we cannot find a source for a figure, we do not invent one; we leave it out or give a range from the sources we have and say so.
Health-fund information is drawn from published policy documents. Because benefits depend on your policy, waiting periods and annual limits, we never state what a fund will pay.
We are building a panel of independent clinical reviewers who hold current AHPRA registration as dentists or specialist orthodontists. When a reviewer has checked a page, the page will show the reviewer’s name, profession and the review date. Until then, pages carry an editor byline only and we do not claim clinical review where none has taken place.
Reviewers are paid a flat fee per review, receive no share of advertising or affiliate income and never review a page that features their own practice or employer. The rules are set out on our contributors page. A clinical review is not a substitute for seeing a registered dentist or orthodontist about your own teeth.
Every page shows a last-updated date. Cost guides, comparison pages and city shortlists are reviewed at least every six months, and sooner when a source publishes new data, such as an updated fee survey or a change to health-fund rebates. Product reviews are reviewed when a product is discontinued, reformulated or materially repriced. How-to and general-health articles are reviewed annually. If the figures still hold, we update the date and note that the page was checked.
When we get something wrong, we correct it on the page and, for anything more than a typo, add a dated correction note at the bottom explaining what changed. We do not quietly edit errors away. To report an error, use the contact page; we aim to respond within two business days and to correct confirmed errors within five. Practices can ask us to update their details at any time; we verify changes against the AHPRA register before publishing them.
We are funded by display advertising, affiliate commissions, referral fees from named partners and sponsorship of tools and guides. Each is labelled where it appears; see our about and work with us pages.
Commercial and editorial decisions are made separately. Sponsors and advertisers do not see copy before publication, do not choose which products or practices we cover and cannot ask us to change a figure. A product that earns us a commission is held to the same standard as one that does not.
