A check-up and clean at a Perth dentist typically costs $150–$360 in 2026. A Noranda practice publishes a basic exam and clean at $208 and a comprehensive new-patient visit at $459, while a northern-suburbs group quotes $150–$300 before X-rays. A white filling runs about $150–$400, a porcelain crown $1,500–$2,800 and a simple extraction $200–$350. Concession-card holders can access subsidised care through Dental Health Services WA.
Perth’s dental fees sit close to the national average, and the city has an unusually good number of practices that publish itemised fee lists. That makes it easier to compare than in most capitals. CHOICE’s summary of the Australian Dental Association’s fee survey put a national exam, clean and fluoride at about $219; Perth practices publishing a basic exam and clean at around $208 are right on that mark, while comprehensive new-patient visits with full X-rays run considerably higher.
The table draws on published fee lists from Noranda and the CBD, a northern-suburbs practice group’s 2026 guide and the ADA survey.

We may earn a fee if you take out a policy via "Get a quote". Our fund table includes funds that pay us nothing. How we make money
Perth practices tend to itemise rather than bundle, so a quoted “check-up and clean” may not include X-rays ($47 each or $120 for a full-mouth OPG at one Noranda practice) or fluoride (about $37). Ask what is included. Our national dental cost guide explains each ADA item number.
Dental Health Services (DHS), part of WA Health, provides subsidised dental care to adults who hold a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. Unlike most states, WA’s adult scheme is subsidised rather than free: eligible patients pay a percentage of the standard fee, with the subsidy higher for pensioners than for Health Care Card holders. Care is delivered through public dental clinics across Perth and, where public capacity is full, through approved private dentists under the Subsidised Private Services scheme.
To find your nearest clinic or check eligibility, call DHS on (08) 9313 0555 or use its Find a Clinic tool. For urgent care, phone your local public clinic for an appointment; DHS asks patients not to present without one. The Oral Health Centre of WA in Nedlands, next to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, is the state’s main teaching clinic and runs emergency and student services for eligible patients.
School-aged children can enrol in WA’s School Dental Service, which provides free general dental care through school-based clinics from pre-primary to Year 11. Eligible children aged 0–17 are also covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), a Medicare benefit capped over two calendar years; see our CDBS guide.
Check registration first. Every dentist practising in Australia must be registered with the Dental Board of Australia through AHPRA, and the public AHPRA register shows registration status, specialist titles and any conditions on practice.
Then weigh the factors that matter most in Perth:
We do not rank practices by reviews or stars, and no dentist is described as a specialist on this site unless AHPRA lists them as one.
Perth practices itemise more than most, so ask for the fee for each of items 011, 114, 121 and 022 rather than a bundled figure, then add them up. Ask whether a full-mouth OPG is routinely taken at a first visit (it adds around $120) and whether it is clinically needed. And check whether the practice is in HBF’s Member Plus network or your own fund’s preferred-provider list, since in WA that is often the difference between a gap-free check-up and a $200 bill.
For facial swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding or a knocked-out tooth after a serious injury, call 000 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department. For severe toothache or a broken tooth, most private practices keep same-day emergency slots and charge a consultation fee of roughly $50–$125 before any treatment; a simple extraction in Perth typically runs $200–$350 and surgical removal $400–$600.
Eligible concession-card holders should phone their local DHS clinic for an emergency appointment rather than attending unannounced. Our emergency dentist guide covers first aid while you wait.
